The best part of owning your own business
Owning my own business was the only possible option for me. As a divorced Mom, I wanted more than anything to be able to raise my children myself, without shipping them off to full-day child care. Now that I have been in business for myself for several years, my outlook has changed. The best part of owning your own business is the freedom it gives to take responsibility for your own life.
The freedom often envisioned by those not involved in owning your own business often includes hot sports cars and trips to the Caribbean taken whenever the mood strikes. After all, that is what they show in those home-business informercials, right?
Of course some people make enough money owning their own business to do things like that, but it is not the reality for most entrepreneurs. The freedom I’m talking about is the freedom to take responsibility for your own life.
Owning your own business provides opportunities for self-respect that working for a boss never could. It is harder to be able to rely on yourself when someone else tells you what to do, or you can lay off work on others. Owning your own business gives you the reins to control the devlopment, production, and marketing of your dream. Whether you reach your destination or plunge off the cliff into financial ruin is all on your shoulders.
By this point, you might think I’m crazy. Having that type of responsibility sounds stressful! And it can be! However, the sense of accomplishment when you find success is second to none. The freedom to take reponsibility for your own life is a powerful thing.
That freedom of owning your own business lets you wake up at any hour, as long as you schedule enough time to complete all required tasks. That freedom of owning your own business allows you to make as much profit as you want, as long as you work hard to get there. You can build and grow your business until you command many employees, or keep it simple on your kitchen table. You can tailor your life and finances to whatever you want, as long as you are confident and hard-working enough to make it happen.
The best part of owning your own business is the freedom to take responsibility for your own life. Trips to Tahiti and Corvettes are great, if you can get there financially, but the feeling of paying your mortgage, your grocery bill, or for your kid’s dance lessons with money you created yourself is better than anything.
